EPS Edison Volta Prize

The European Physical Society, the Fondazione Alessandro Volta, and Edison S.p.A. have created a joint award to promote excellent research and achievements in physics. The award shall be made for outstanding achievements in physics: discoveries, significant breakthroughs in research, relevant contributions to his/her field of research, research methods, instruments, facilities, etc.

The Distinction consists of a diploma, a medal, and a monetary award of 10,000 €.

Who is eligible?

The Distinction is open to research physicists, students, teachers, or anyone carrying out work related to physics.

How to nominate ?

There are no restrictions on who can make nominations.
The nomination should include:
- Personal details of the nominee(s), including biographical statement(s).
- Citation(s) highlighting the work of the nominee(s).
- Up to three statements of support for the nomination from individuals who are familiar to the work of the nominee(s)

Key Dates

The EPS will make the call for nominations through its website, its electronic newsletter e-EPS, its bimonthly magazine Europhysics News (EPN) and other communications to its members. The Fondazione “Alessandro Volta” and Edison S.p.A. will publish the call for nominations on their respective websites or in any other media they will choose for this scope.
The announcement of the award will normally take place during the EPS Annual Council Meeting.
An award ceremony will be organised at the Fondazione Alessandro Volta, in Como (IT).
